Crime. In 2004 it was an issue for Fairfield. It had made a neighborhood almost unlivable and adjacent mall districts dangerous. A potential solution was discovered that eventually became known as the Leaven. What has been learned is that, not only children in The Leaven program do better in school, but neighborhoods became safer too.
