Captain Jonathan Harvey
Having grown up in England, Captain Jonathan Harvey moved permanently to the United States of America in 1993 to pursue a relationship with is now wife Vickie and to work for The Salvation Army. He began working with youth in partnership with Vickie providing leadership to a variety of programs for children and teens.
In 2001, Captain Harvey and his wife felt a strong calling to Salvation Army Officership. As they prepared to enter The Salvation Army’s College for Officer Training, they provided leadership to a Salvation Army center in Farmington, NM, which at the time was without leadership.
While in Farmington, Captain Harvey received the distinction of Rotarian of the Year and Man of the Year. Captain Harvey and his wife also founded a program called “The Underground”, a nightclub style setting for teens which to this day provides a safe haven to hundreds of young people every week, many of which have turned from a life of drugs and alcohol because of the program.
In 2004, Captain Harvey and his wife entered The Salvation Army’s College for Officer Training and graduated in June 2006. Upon graduation, the Harvey’s were appointed to Yuma, Arizona as the County Coordinators. Their responsibilities include oversight of Boys and Girls Club of America programs in two border communities, a daily hot lunch program for the homeless, two thrift stores, a social services center, thrift store operation and a variety of other services. In addition, Captain Harvey and his wife provided pastoral leadership to two congregations including oversight of a Hispanic ministry. Captain Harvey is husband to Vickie, his wife of almost 20 years and has a 16-year-old son Zacharie and a 11-year-old daughter Mackenzie.
In June of 2010 Captain Harvey and his family were transferred to Solano County, CA. to develop the work of The Salvation Army and to design, build and operate a new concept Community Center. The new center provides aquatics, fitness, a theatre, sports, music and character development programs as well as spiritual enrichment and educational activities. Captain Harvey also provides leadership to three Family Service offices in Solano County that provide thousands of families with food, utility assistance and other basic necessities. Captain Harvey serves as Public Relations Director for the Fairfield-Suisun Rotary Club, is Immediate Past Chair of the Solano County VOAD and participates in a numerous other advisory, community action and coordinating groups.
