Monte Hoover is President and General Manager of Gillespie’s Abbey Carpet & Floors, a company established in 1934. The Hoover family has owned and operated the company for 40 years. Monte started in the company as a Cleaning Technician and over the years has been responsible for project management, writing procedure/policy manuals, business planning, budget, sales, marketing, safety training, human resources and accounting. When the Hoover family became owners of the company in 1975, there were only two employees and they leased a 1,000 square foot building space. Today, the company operates out of a 19,000 square foot building space which they purchased in 1996 and employs 15 workers. In 1998, Gillespie’s design showroom was selected by Abbey Buying Group to be previewed in their national advertising campaign. During the past five years, Monte has led the company through survival of the last recession and has completed a turn-around plan that has once again placed the company in a profitable growth mode.
In 1988, Monte was elected to the Board of Directors for the Carpet & Fabric Institute and served in this capacity until 1991. He was responsible for assisting the organization in doubling their membership and increasing revenues. Monte organized, hosted and was a speaker at many educational opportunities for the members. He was awarded Director of the Year in 1989 for his many contributions.
Monte graduated from Vacaville High School and Solano Community College with a Marketing and Management Degree. He also completed the Business Academy Entrepreneurial Training Program through the University of Phoenix. He is a graduate of the Leadership Today Program. He is a Certified Flooring Professional (CFP) through the World Floor Covering Association and a Certified Textile Consultant through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification.
Monte serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce. He is the Vice President of the Board of the Busch Campos Business Park He is a member of the Solano Business Group (SBG) and a founding member of the Northbay Contractors Alliance (NCA). He is an ambassador for The Business Builders Club (BBC). He served on the Yippie Foundation Advisory Board and also has mentored youth in the organization. He is a past Vice President of the Heather House homeless shelter. He is a committee member of the Annual Tomato Festival. He is recognized as the Voice of Fairfield because he emcees the Independence Day parade, Veterans day parade and the Tomato Festival. In 2013 Monte was awarded Ambassador of the Year from both The Vacaville & Fairfield Suisun Chambers of Commerce. He is serving a 2 year commitment as a Honorary Commander at Travis AFB assigned to the 15 AMOS Squadron. He also serves on the Executive Committee for Travis Regional Armed Forces Committee (TRAFC).
Monte’s personal mission statement is “ To inspire and encourage integrity & excellence in the youth of our community.” He is committed to assisting organization that enrich the lives of youth.
In his free time, Monte enjoys time with his wife of 33 years Sharon. They have over 40 nieces & nephews. Monte enjoys gardening and landscaping. He also spends a great deal of time in the outdoors with his Chocolate Lab Maggie.
