Solomon King A journey through life in technology, design and business
Hello.
I am Solomon King Benge and I am passionate about design, business and technology. My ambitions revolve around fostering ideas and building products that enhance our interaction with both the physical and digital worlds through computer user interfaces and electronic hardware.
In 2011, I founded Fundi Bots, a robotics non-profit that aims to promote better education experiences, improved career prospects and real-world technological advancement in African high schools through training and experimentation in robotics, embedded control and artificial intelligence. Our work with Fundi Bots has received recognition by Google through a Google RISE grant in 2012, the BBC, Voice of America and Wired Magazine UK.
Through my work with Fundi Bots, I was selected as a 2014 Echoing Green Fellow and a 2014 Ashoka Fellow. Echoing Green and Ashoka Fellowships provide financial, logistical and advisory support to emerging world leaders to pursue ideas that try to solve some of the world’s biggest problems.
In 2006, I founded Node Six, a web solutions firm offering domain, email and hosting services. Our focus on creating local content for Uganda has led to the creation of Node Six brands like Proggie.ug, Uganda’s leading entertainment and events portal.
I am also the founder Elemental Edge, a Ugandan visual effects production house that produces interactive media, TV advertising, 3D and 2D animation and live action filming. Elemental Edge has done branding and advertising work for some of the biggest local and international brands.
When I’m not designing user interfaces, pushing 3D pixels, or tinkering with robots, I enjoy travelling, photography and creative fiction writing.
