Kettles Making Change in Solano County
The Salvation Army Red Kettles Collecting Money for Those in Need
The holidays have official come to Solano County. The proof? The familiar sight and sound of red aprons, kettles and bells, all signaling the start of the The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.
November 18 kicked off the holiday season with the kettles – about 25 of them throughout Solano County – to bring in funds that sustain the charity throughout the year. The money raised helps pay for food panties, Christmas toys for children and funds to help those most in need pay for rent and electricity.
“The Salvation Army relies very heavily on the income from the Red Kettle.” said Captain Jonathan Harvey, The Salvation Army Solano County Coordinator.
Between the Very Cherry Red Kettle Kickoff at the Jelly Belly Factory on November 18, and kettles out in Solano County, The Salvation Army has raised $70,000 so far but need to collect $200,000 by Christmas Eve.
“The goal of $200,000 is not just a number we are hoping to achieve, it’s the actual amount we need to maintain the services we currently offer.” Said Harvey.
