Vacaville competes for $100,000 to fund dog park

The Community Services Department has announced the city has been nominated for a chance to win $100,000 to help build a new dog park.
PetSafe brand is giving five communities the opportunity to win money to help build a dog park in its fifth annual Bark for Your Park Contest, the city said in a press release.
The contest, which launched May 13, will award a $100,000 grand prize and four finalists with $25,000 each to build an off-leash dog park in their community.
Vacaville already has 1.3 acres in Centennial Park allocated for a dog park and winning would provide funds necessary to get the project rolling, according to the city’s release.
Voting, which continues through June 10, is being done at www.petsafe.net/barkforyourpark and the company’s Facebook site, Facebook.com/petsafebrand.
Population size and total number of votes will also be used to select 15 finalist communities, which will be announced June 17, the release said. Vacaville dog lovers are encouraged to share this contest with family, friends and on their Facebook pages, Instagram and Twitter accounts to help generate votes, the release said.
Contest Overview
To become a finalist for the Bark for Your Park contest, the PetSafe® brand encourages communities of pet professionals, owners, shelters, welfare groups and local civic officials to partner together to help their community win $100,000 to build a PetSafe dog park. The runner-up city in each small, medium and large population category will also win $25,000. The Bark from Your Heart community winner will be the finalist with the highest percentage of votes to the city’s population and will also win $25,000. A community may only win one of the five prizes.
Contest Dates:
This Contest will begin at 1:00:00 pm ET May 13, 2015 and end at 11:59:59 pm ET on July 22, 2015 or upon announcement and qualification of the Prize Winners, whichever is later. Entries must be submitted by 11:59:59 pm ET on June 10, 2015.
