Every weekend in Los Angeles is a main event with a million things to do from a tourist, to the nightclub – seasoned celebrity. Star-studded parties are everywhere in LA, and it is not uncommon for you to run into a few stars while club-hopping.
Saturday night in Hollywood, club OHM pulled out the red carpet to celebrate beloved boss comedian Luenell Campbell’s birthday. A woman with a large personality and the ability to make you kneel over in stomach pain from her raunchy jokes, Luenell has made audiences laugh for over 20 years. The Bad Girl of Comedy captured the world’s attention after several appearances on BET’s Comicview in the 1990’s.
Luenell’s brand went mainstream after appearing in the 2006 mockumentary comedy film âBorat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstanâ where she played a prostitute called Luenell who couldnât get enough of the pale white, frail and smelly Borat. Shortly after her role on Borat, Luenell began touring on the road with Katt Williams and making several projects with him, including Katthouse Comedy and “American Hustle.â. But, this Bad Girl of Comedy doesn’t stop her career at comedy dvdâs and stand up, Ms. Campbell has also appeared in a heap of films with some of her more favored features including âTaken 2,â television series âCalifornication,â âThink Like A Man Too,â âHotel Transylvania,â and âNever Die Alone,â and guest appearances on many reality tv shows.
After a long anticipated wait for her arrival, Luenell and her family turned up the red carpet… Literally. An immediate force of energy filled the room and the floor began to rumble as the smell of 420 friendly guests came pouring into the venue. Of course Luenell came dressed in her signature look, rocking her Caesar haircut, with the fire engine red color -instead of the blonde. Her outfit looked fun and Luenell looked classy while draped in a trendy multi-colored flower print dress, flaunting her infectious smile that lets everyone know she is in the room.
The night was indeed a star-studded attraction and many actors, musicians and media personalities came out to spread love to Luenell. Elise Neal, Paula Jai Parker, Jackie from Basketball Wives of Los Angeles, Tiffany Pollard aka New York, Darius MCrary, and hip hop pioneer and former on-air personality for Sirius Satellite Radio, Backspin channel Dana Dane were some of Luenells good friends that came to stop by and party for the night.
While Greg Mack of KDay and 94.7 The Wave hosted the party, DJ Paradise kept the music spinning while the âThe On Call Bandâ provided the live sound for Kelly Price, Faith Evans, Yo-Yo, Kimball Hooker, B. Slade, Jaguar Wright, Troop, The Mary Jane Girls, Brazilian Samba Mama Guadeloupe DâLushus and the Sambalushus Dancers as they performed special songs selected by the birthday girl. Luenell enjoyed her night as she danced on stage, laughed, and sang with friends.
Although the night was all about Luenell, in our interview, she couldn’t help but to make the night about her friends. Humbled, she expresses feelings about losing her good friend Ahmad Givens, aka Chance from VH1’s ” Real Chance of Love,” and sending out her condolences to his family before heading inside VIP to greet her guests.
Whatâs not to love about Luenell – she is hilariously funny, honest and she cares about people plus, the woman can party all night long. Maybe Luenell next business venture should be her own reality show? Let’s put it together Luenell!
