Kroc Center Attempts To Build World’s Largest Monopoly Board at 3rd Annual KrocFest
Goal is to construct 3721 sq ft outdoor Monopoly board
The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Suisun City (586 E Wigeon Way) is going big for its 3rd annual KrocFest–literally! The Kroc Center will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record of Largest Monopoly Board Game on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. The free KrocFest event will go from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Salvation Army staff and volunteers will try to construct a 3721 square foot outdoor Monopoly board. If successful, the new outdoor board game would surpass the current record mark of 2422 square feet.
“The excitement for the event is building and we invite everyone to come down and enjoy a day of play with your friends and family,” said Michael Brito, director of operations for the Kroc Center. “Witness history in the making as we break the world record and help support sending kids to camp and our back to school event.”
Brito spearheaded the idea following a meeting with the Solano Chamber of Commerce. Chamber members presented the opportunity to the Kroc Center of being a part of their City-O-Poly board. From there, the vision grew. With support from the Chamber, as well as financial support from Ford Motor Company, Hodson & Mullin Attorneys at Law, The Jelly Belly Candy Company, and Pacific Gas and Electric Company, the Kroc Center immediately began planning for the event.
All proceeds and benefits from the event will go towards The Kroc Camp Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship fund helps children attend Kroc Camps throughout the year who otherwise financially would not be able to attend. It also helps with their Back To School Shopping, where children get to shop at Target for back to school supplies.
“We see the positive outcomes from kids who go to camp and know the needs for kids to have the supplies to go back to school and we are doing everything we can to fill those needs and help create positive memories in children’s lives.” said . “The impact that camps have on kids cannot be understated. They take the memories of what they see, open air, activities and friendships they have made with them for the rest of their lives and we strive to make sure every frame in that memory a positive one.”
The 3rd annual KrocFest celebrates the anniversary of the Salvation Army Kroc Center opening in Suisun City. Since 2012, the 60,000 square foot facility houses an array of education, sports, faith, arts and supportive programs. During the last three years, membership has grown from 500 to the current count of 5000.
In addition to the Monopoly Board Game KrocFest will also have vendors, food, “Play Big” games, and Monopoly themed activities inside the Kroc Center.
